Ninja creami strawberry frozen yogurt in pint container after spinning on cream plate with ice cream scoop beside it.

Okay so I did it. I finally caved and got the Ninja Creami and you guys, it’s been so fun getting to test so many recipes! I love how simple they are to make and how you can get REAL tasting, soft frozen yogurt or ice cream right at home!

And don’t get me wrong, I love ice cream as much as the next person (just check out my No Churn Dark Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream, Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream or Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream) but when I’m looking for something a little lighter, this Strawberry Frozen Yogurt is perfect!

You won’t believe how simple and easy this recipe is! It’s made with only four ingredients and the single serving is perfect for one so you don’t have to worry about storing leftovers for later!

This will definitely be on repeat all spring and summer long for me!

Ingredient Notes

(For the full recipe, scroll down to the recipe card below)

  • Fresh strawberries: It’s almost spring time so this recipe is perfect for using fresh, ripe strawberries 🍓You can use frozen strawberries but they will need to be thawed so you can mash them down.
  • Sugar: Use granular sugar or your favorite sweetener alternative like monk fruit.
  • Lemon zest: The lemon zest helps to really bring out the right balance of flavor and brings a bit of freshness to this frozen yogurt.
  • Greek yogurt: Make sure to use Greek yogurt, not regular for the creamiest texture! I used Fage, full-fat greek yogurt.

Expert Tips

  • Prep in advance: Make sure to allow your pint at least 24 hours to freeze before spinning.
  • Avoid icy edges: If you don’t have time to let your pint sit on the counter for ~15-20 minutes, you can run your pint container under warm water for 30 seconds before running it through the Ninja Creami machine. You can also run a run a butter knife or spoon along the sides after the initial spin to make sure there aren’t any icy edges.
  • Re-spins: If your pint isn’t smooth and creamy after the initial spin, you can re-spin until you get your desired consistency.
  • Don’t overfill the container: Make sure not to overfill the pint container. The frozen yogurt will expand in volume as it spins so don’t worry if it looks like the pint isn’t initially full.

Variations / Substitutions

  • Mix-ins: If you want, you can add chocolate chips or graham crackers the Respin cycle then press the Mix-Ins cycle. Or you can just add them to the top after mixing!
  • Toppings: Top your frozen yogurt with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, chocolate chips, drippy peanut butter, crushed cookie pieces, etc.
  • ½ Greek yogurt, ½ milk: I’ve also made this recipe with ½ cup Greek yogurt and ½ cup whole milk and it turns out great.
  • Different fruit: Swap the fresh strawberries for any fresh fruit you prefer! Cherries, blueberries, raspberries, etc. for a fun variation!

Storage / Freezing

  • If you don’t finish the pint (good luck😉) use a spoon to smooth and level out the top of the remaining frozen yogurt in the Ninja Creami pint container and place back in the freezer with the lid. When ready to eat, let slightly defrost again and re-spin the frozen pint until you reach your desired consistency.
  • If you want to free up one of your pint containers, you can also transfer frozen yogurt to another freezer-safe container and freeze. When ready to enjoy, let it thaw on the container for a few minutes or microwave it for 5-10 seconds to soften.

FAQs

Why does my frozen yogurt look powdery after the first spin?

It is normal for your Creami to be crumbly and powdery after the first spin. The first spin in mainly to break everything up and get it ready to mix together. When you respin, that’s when the magic happens! After the first respin if your frozen yogurt still isn’t creamy enough you can add a little milk and re-spin again (or until your desired consistency).

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes, you can use frozen strawberries, but they will need to be thawed so you can mash them down. The Creami blade is not designed to process uneven chunks or pieces of frozen fruit.

Strawberry Frozen Yogurt (Ninja Creami)

Prep: 15 minutes
Freeze Time: 1 day
Total: 1 day 15 minutes
Servings: 1 pint
This Strawberry Frozen Yogurt is made with just four simple ingredients and is the perfect healthy, high protein, sweet treat. Plus, it's a breeze to make thanks to the Ninja Creami. Just blend, freeze, then let the Ninja Creami work its magic.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. fresh strawberries (washed and cut into small chunks)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (or your favorite sweetener alternative like monk fruit)
  • Pinch of salt
  • lemon zest (from ½ small lemon)
  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt (I use Fage)

Instructions

  • Prep the strawberries: Add the small diced strawberries and sugar to an empty CREAMi™ pint container. Mash the strawberries a bit using a fork, and allow them to sit for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. (This is macerating the strawberries; it helps to tenderize them and intensify their flavor.)

  • Add salt and zest: Once the strawberries are somewhat jammy and no large chunks left behind, add in the salt and lemon zest. Stir.

  • Add yogurt: Mix in the Greek yogurt, stirring well until combined.

  • Freeze: Freeze the pint on a level surface in the freezer, with the lid off, for 24 hours. (Freezing with the lid on creates a hump at the top of the ice cream, which can damage the blade, so be sure to leave it off).

  • Slightly defrost: I know, you’re ready for your frozen yogurt by now. But once you remove the pint from the freezer, allow it to sit on the counter for ~15-20 minutes. This will create a smoother frozen yogurt and be easier for the blades to process.
  • Assemble: Finally, place it in the outer bowl, and lock the lid on top. Place the bowl assembly on the motor base, twist the handle right to raise the platform, and lock it in place.
  • Spin it! Select Lite Ice Cream cycle. If it's still icy or some is stuck to the sides, scrape down the sides and run the Respin cycle 1x.
