Homemade pumpkin spice in a jar with a measuring spoon.

If you love all things pumpkin spice in the Fall, you’ll definitely want to keep a jar of this Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice in your pantry! It’s so easy to make, tastes fresher than store-bought, and is the perfect shortcut for adding that classic cozy fall flavor to everything from pumpkin bread and pancakes to oatmeal, cookies, cakes, granola, and more. It’s also delicious in a warm cup of coffee to pair perfectly with your baked goods☕️

The best part? You probably already have all of the spices sitting in your pantry, so there’s no need to buy a separate jar every time a recipe calls for pumpkin pie spice. Just mix up a batch, store it in a little jar or container, and you’ll have it ready whenever the pumpkin spice craving hits!

Ingredient Notes

  • Ground cinnamon: The warm, sweet spice that gives pumpkin pie spice its classic cozy flavor.
  • Ground ginger: Adds a little bit of warmth and gentle spice that balances out the sweetness of the blend.
  • Ground nutmeg: Brings a warm, slightly nutty flavor that makes this spice blend taste extra cozy and aromatic.
  • Ground allspice: Adds a subtle peppery, sweet flavor that rounds out the other spices.
  • Ground cloves: A little goes a long way! Cloves add a bold, warm, slightly sweet flavor that gives pumpkin pie spice its signature fall taste.

Storage / Freezing

  • The blend won’t really “go bad” quickly, but ground spices gradually lose potency. For the best flavor, I’d use it within 6-12 months. Give the jar a good shake before measuring, since the finer spices can settle.

Notes

Small batch version:
That gives you roughly 2¼ teaspoons, perfect for a recipe calling for around 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice.
And whenever a recipe calls for 1 tsp. of pumpkin pie spice, you can substitute homemade 1:1 for store-bought.
Storage: The blend won’t really “go bad” quickly, but ground spices gradually lose potency. For the best flavor, I’d use it within 6-12 months. Give the jar a good shake before measuring, since the finer spices can settle.
