After my Slow Cooker Pulled Pork went viral, I knew I had to make this Slow Cooker Pork Tenderloin.

It’s tender, juicy, and packed with plenty of bold flavors. It’s one of those effortless meals you’ll crave on repeat.

It’s made with a savory-sweet Asian-inspired sauce with pantry staples; soy sauce, hoisin, brown sugar, and a touch of Chinese Five Spice really make this super flavorful and feel like your favorite takeout meal.

After a day of slow cooking, you’ll have melt-in-your-mouth pork ready to go for dinner, and it’s perfect served over fluffy rice with your favorite veggies. Easy, satisfying meals?! Yes PLEASE!

Ingredients Notes

You can scroll down to the recipe card for the full list of ingredients and measurements.

  • Pork Tenderloin: I used two, ~1 lb. pork tenderloins. You will want to look for the long piece of meat (about 7-8 inches) and not a pork loin.
  • Broth: The recipe calls for beef broth but you can use vegetable broth or chicken broth too.
  • Soy sauce: feel free to use low-sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • Brown sugar: A little bit of brown sugar adds just enough sweetness to balance out the salty notes.
  • Hoisin: The hoisin adds umami-sweet and tangy!
  • Sesame oil: it provides wonderful flavor and fragrance to the pork. Use toasted sesame oil for a deeper flavor.
  • Garlic and ginger: fresh preferred for optimal flavor
  • Cornstarch: Helps to thicken the sauce
  • Chinese 5 Spice: A warming blend of star anise, clove, cinnamon, Sichuan peppercorn, and fennel—it’s optional, but adds that chef’s kiss touch.

Step-by-Step Directions

Tips for slow cooker pork tenderloin

  • There is a difference between a pork loin and a pork tenderloin. This recipe calls for using pork tenderloins (the longer, thinner meat). A pork loin is about 3-4 lbs. each and a pork tenderloin will weigh about 1 lb.
  • Cook until a meat thermometer inserted in the most significant part of the tenderloin (usually in the middle) reads 145°F.
  • Low and slow = best texture. If you’ve got the time, the 6–8 hour low cook will give you ultra-juicy pork.
  • Make it spicy: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha if you like a kick.
  • If you want to bake in the oven, bake at 350°F for approximately 30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
  • Slice or shred the pork; it works either way. Up to you!

Leftovers

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for lunch or leftovers for dinner for up to 3 days.
  • You can also freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, defrost in the fridge and reheat on the stove or in the microwave.

Do you use one of these more than the other?

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. pork tenderloin (or 2 loins)

Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed

  • 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. ginger, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-spice powder (optional) (I like adding it in, gives great flavor but I know it’s not a common spice to have, so it’s OK to leave out!)

Instructions

  • Place pork in slow cooker: Place the pork tenderloins in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
2 lb. pork tenderloin (or 2 loins)
  • Whisk sauce ingredients: Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a measuring cup.
3/4 cup beef broth, 1/3 cup soy sauce, 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed, 1 Tbsp. hoisin, 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar, 1 Tbsp. sesame oil, 1 Tbsp. cornstarch, 1 tsp. garlic, minced, 1 tsp. ginger, minced, 1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-spice powder (optional)
  • Pour over pork: pour sauce over the pork, turning the pork a couple of times to make sure it’s all coated. (not submerged, just will be coated)
  • Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
  • Slice or shred: the pork will be very tender and easy to shred or slice, however you prefer. I like to add it right back into the sauce in the slow cooker.
  • Serve: serve with rice, veggies, green onions, and sesame seeds for garnish.
garnish and serving: green onions, sesame seeds, rice, veggies, etc.

This was so good and easy! I don’t normally like the fat, but I was scrapping the bottom of the instant pot to eat the fat pieces! They had such great flavor! Thank you for this recipe.
