Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1 Tbsp. hoisin
  • 1 Tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. ginger, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-spice powder (optional) I like adding it in, gives great flavor but I know it’s not a common spice to have, so it’s OK to leave out!
  • garnish and serving: green onions, sesame seeds, rice, veggies, etc.

  • Pour over pork: pour sauce over the pork, turning the pork a couple of times to make sure it’s all coated. (not submerged, just will be coated)
  • Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
  • Slice or shred: the pork will be very tender and easy to shred or slice, however you prefer. I like to add it right back into the sauce in the slow cooker.
